For ourselves over the next week:
Not started
- Local installs of matlab and fluent. Ideally the ap shell scripts should see if they're installed locally, if not, fall back to the NFS installs.
- MENTOR GRAPHICS! Same as above. Then we make all of Hoda's people just install NX on their windows machines instead of installing RHEL.
- Replace login.secs with hyperion (end of semester).
- Forward 22 to hyperion so we can do NX/ssh from the interweb.
- PINE for the unix heads, with printing.
- /etc/motd, pointing to the wiki + the usual stuff. Rodrigo has a patch to make /etc/motd pop up in a dialog on a graphical login, we can expect this for 2.14 (dapper timeframe), should make this much nicer.
- SECS menu - it would be nice to just drop the need for ap if we do a nice menu with .desktop files that set the variables before launch.
- Redirect the lame Ubuntu firefox home .html page to the upstream FF start page.
- Make professors start testing. (Mr. Hoda and Srodawa.)
- Doublecheck to make sure the system ulimit is set to something sane so forgue can't fork bomb us. It's in /etc/default someplace.
- Brand the GDM login screen with a SECS logo. The eyes like on that billboard would RULE.
- Signs in DHE239 pointing to the wiki pages so people don't freak out.
- Proper student profiles using sabayon instead of the enforced gconf policies (Will have to wait for dapper)
Started
Hyperion page on the wiki.
- Replacing all the lame rhel4 shit with stuff for hyperion on the wiki.
- Investigate a custom PXES build for shitty PCs to make them "thin clients" that just boot into an NX client.
- Custom menu icon in the app menu. (I made a lame one)
To decide, pending discussion
- Do we want to open up XDMCP? (I say "depends" based on how easy it is to get NX running on solaris)
- Is this the time to drop tcsh and go bash for everything?
- "Report problem to SECS" panel entry that takes them right to Footprints?
- Netbeans/Sun Studio stuff?
- Sun compilers in /opt?
- Need to find a way to logout users if they've been logged in forever and haven't done anything.
- Make all of our changes "upgrade proof" so we don't have to do jack when we upgrade to dapper. Recommend using /opt for all proprietary software.
