Hyperion is the newest application server at SECS.
It is a Hewlett-Packard Proliant DL145 G2, with Two(2) Dual Core AMD Opteron Processor 265's, running at 1.8Ghz each, with 8gb of RAM. This server will be replacing Superman, Batman, and Robin as the main workhorse for SECS Faculty and Students.
Hyperion is running Ubuntu Linux 5.10 and features the GNOME Desktop Environment, the Mozilla Firefox web browser, and the Evolution mail client. The development environment is extensive, with support for Java 1.5, Mono, Perl, Python, TCL/TK, and the full complement of the GNU Compiler Collection (c, c++, fortran). Integrated Development Environments are also included, including Eclipse 3.1, Netbeans (3.6, 4.1, 5.0), Monodevelop, Emacs, Anjuta, Bluefish, and Glade.
Hyperion also serves the Sun Ray lab in DHE239 and DHE164 and includes the Blender design tool, as well as The Gimp, Dia, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and OpenOffice.org.
Commercial software available on Hyperion includes Matlab, AVL, the Pam environment, Mentor Graphics (EE585 Students Only), Comsol, Fluent, and Gambit.
Hyperion, like all SECS Linux machines, is named after a moon of Saturn. Students and faculty can access hyperion via ssh for a command line interface, and NX for a graphical interface.
