Getting Started
Welcome to the School of Engineering and Computer Science! As an engineering student, you have access to additional resources available throughout Dodge Hall, Hanna Hall, and SEB.
In order to have access to these resources, you need an SECS account. Account creation and management is available on the front page of our website, http://cto.secs.oakland.edu.
Please allow up to 24 hours of processing if you're making a new account. Your SECS account is totally independent of your Oakland University account. It is important to remember that these accounts are seperate. If you are having issues with the computers in the lab or have general questions about the network, click here to contact us.
Labs
We provide labs for students to do their schoolwork and research. Most of our resources are located on the second floor of Dodge Hall in our Computer Center. To get a quick overview on how to use a lab machine, visit the desktop overview page. To find out how to access your network files from home, visit the Remote File Access page.
Software
Your class might give you the ability to take home CD's of certain software. For instance, certain CSE classes let you have Visual Studio.NET for your work in the class. Check out the Available Software page to see what software you can get, and ask your professor for a software requisition form. Your professor will sign the form. Once you have the form filled out, you can sign out software from DHE153. See our list of available software to find what you need.
Using this Website
This website is a collaborative wiki that is meant to consolidate all the SECS IT documentation in one easy to use resource. Commands to type into a computer will always be in italics or in a seperate box:
$ The dollar sign is the prompt, this text is what you would type in.
Some pictures are thumbnailed, that is, they're shrunk down to fit on the page and might be hard to read, click on the picture itself to get a larger version. Please contact us if you feel that some of the instructions are unclear or need revision. We're always happy to involve students and faculty in our documentation process.
